Itinerary

Day 1Beijing Arrival

As soon as you step off the plane at Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK), your awesome tour guide will be there, holding a sign with your name on it, right outside baggage claim area. After your long journey, kick back and relax—you deserve it!

Day 2Beijing-Exploring Rural Life: Tiananmen Square, The Forbidden City and Hutong Tour

Morning

Tiananmen Square is one of the largest squares in the world. It was originally the entrance to the imperial city and was later used for announcing royal decrees and holding important celebrations, like the coronation of a new emperor or imperial weddings. This square holds great political significance because of its location and the historical events that have taken place there. If you wake up early in the morning, you can even attend the flag-raising ceremony. It's a solemn ritual that symbolizes patriotism and national pride, deeply rooted in Chinese culture. For Chinese students, participating in the ceremony is something that have to be done every Monday at school.

Stroll from the square to the Forbidden City, also named Palace Museum, which is a must-see spot for international students. This city was once the home to 24 emperors and their families in ancient China, as well as the ceremonial and political center of the Chinese imperial government. It is famous around the world for its great historical importance. While there, you can admire its impressive architecture and scenery, and also learn about the secrets of the royal family.

Next, we'll arrange an interesting activity-Treasure Hunt for students. To complete the game, you'll need to collect all the clues provided by our guide. It's a unique opportunity to learn and enjoy yourself in the world's largest imperial palace. Plus, winners will receive special souvenirs.

Afterwards, lunch will be served at a nearby local restaurant.


Afternoon

Hutong, like a maze, is made up of historic alleys lined with many traditional courtyard houses. For many locals, Beijing and hutong are closely connected. These hutongs represent the residents who live there and serve as a museum of Beijing's folk customs, showing the city's rich history. Sadly, over the past decades, many hutongs have been torn down to make way for modern buildings and wider roads. Fortunately, some historic neighborhoods are being preserved. Here you can choose to stroll on foot to immerse yourself in the atmosphere or rent a bicycle to cover more ground while resting your feet. Alternatively, hiring a rickshaw is another enjoyable way to go. In this Hutong tour, students are encouraged to attend a Chinese calligraphy class at a dweller's home in the Hutong area. By learning Chinese characters, you'll gain a deeper understanding of Chinese culture.

(Optional activity: Test your artistic abilities by learning to paint a Peking Opera Face Mask from a skilled Chinese traditional artisan. These masks feature stunning patterns in vibrant colors and delicate, smooth lines, created either with a brush or by hand. The various facial expressions and makeup colors showcase the distinct characteristics of each character)


Evening

In the evening, you will savor the authentic Peking Roast Duck meal at a renowned restaurant.

Day 3 Beijing-Exploring Historical Sites: The Temple of Heaven and Badaling Great Wall

Morning

The Temple of Heaven stands as a valuable exemplar of ancient Chinese architectural art and represents the largest religious architectural complex in the world dedicated to heaven worshiping from ancient China, where the Emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties would perform rituals to worship heaven and pray for good harvests. While in imperial times, commoners were not allowed to enter this vast park. But today, for a nominal fee, you can enjoy its beauty all day long, and then you will be marveled by its architecture and landscape designs. Students can observe up close the ancient architectures such as the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests and the Echo Wall, experiencing their unique architectural styles and historical-cultural charm. In this process, students can gain a deep understanding of the historical background and architectural features of The Temple of Heaven, also explore the scientific mysteries by delving into the acoustic principles of the Echo Wall and the mathematical design of the Circular Mound Altar.


Afternoon

A visit to the Great Wall of China is indispensable on everyone's travel list. Badaling Great Wall approximately 3,741 meters (2.3 miles) long, stands out as the best-preserved and most impressive. It held significant strategic value in ancient times. It is is one of the renowned sections of the Great Wall, widely welcomed for its magnificent scenery and convenient transportation. For junior high school students, Badaling Great Wall is well-equipped with cable cars. Students can choose to hike or take the cable car up and down, making it suitable for junior high school students with varying physical capabilities.


Evening

After such a long hike, the evening schedule is more relaxing. On the way back to the hotel, we will pass the Water Cube and Bird's Nest, where you will be surprised by the imagination and creativity of the designer. They were both landmarks of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and also symbols of "new" Beijing.

Day 4Beijing-Luoyang:The Summer Palace

Morning

With its magnificent building, charming scenery, and tumultuous history, The Summer Palace is no doubt a exquisite place to explore. The Summer Palace was originally the imperial garden of the Qing Dynasty. It was later extensively expanded and renovated under the direction of Empress Dowager Cixi, who spent summers, entertain, repeatedly summoned officials and the received the diplomatic envoys here. Apart from its story in the past, students can stroll through the Long Corridor that ends at the Marble Boat, climb the Longevity Hill and have a sweeping views of the Summer Palace and the Fragrant Hills


Afternoon

After lunch, you will board the high-speed train to embark on a journey to the next station. After 4 hours, you will arrive at Luoyang railway station, where you will be greeted by enthusiastic drivers and guides. You can take a rest or walk around the city after you check in to your hotel.

Day 5Luoyang-Longmen Grottoes and Luoyi Ancient Town

Morning

You will spend this morning time visiting Longmen Grottoes, the pinnacle of artistic achievement in stone carving. It boasts a rich history dating back to the reign of Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei Dynasty. Characterized by its numerous caves, intricate carvings, and a blend of royal and folk Buddhist art, Longmen Grottoes showcases a transition from religious to secular expression. Visiting Longmen Grottoes offers students a profound glimpse into the spread and evolution of Buddhist culture in China, and an appreciation for the exquisite craftsmanship and artistic achievements of ancient Chinese civilizations, making it a meaningful journey through history and art.

(Optional activity: We flexibly provide another alternative destination for students to choose. If you want to know more about Chinese culture and history, you are also suggested visit Luoyang Museum, which is one of the earliest national first-grade museums in China. The architectural features of Luoyang Museum are distinctive, with its overall appearance resembling a large tripodal cauldron standing tall, symbolizing "standing firm under heaven". Its collection boasts a rich array of over 400,000 artifacts, with over 11,000 on display. During their visit here, students can participate in the "Junior Museum Curator" courses, including courses on pottery, bronze wares, and ancient crafts. This is an excellent opportunity to gain knowledge and help them better understand ancient Chinese civilization)


Afternoon

After lunch, we will start our journey in Luoyang with Luoyi Ancient Town, which was once one of the capitals of the Zhou Dynasty, with a rich history and cultural heritage. As the largest industrial park for intangible cultural heritage in Henan Province, Luoyi Ancient Town is renowned for its unique street layouts, well-organized buildings, and architectural styles in various periods. With tree-lined streets and crisscrossing alleys, students feel it like a journey back to ancient times. For foreign middle school students, visiting Luoyi Ancient Town not only allows them to gain insights into the evolution of ancient Chinese cities, but also to personally experience traditional Chinese culture and witness the development of intangible cultural heritage.


(Optional activity: We have another alternative destination for you to choose. Especially if you are interested in Taoism, you are suggested visit the White Horse Temple.White Horse Temple is the birthplace of Chinese Buddhism and the first official temple built after Buddhism was introduced into China. The temple is centered on the axis, with a compact architectural structure, forming a symmetrical and solemn pattern. The main buildings are mainly made of wood, showing the exquisite skills of Chinese classical architecture. Although it has experienced thousands of years of wind and rain, it can still be kept intact. The architectural style and carving art of the White Horse Temple embody the essence of ancient Chinese culture, and visitors can feel the charm of traditional Chinese culture here)

Day 6 Luoyang-Xi’an: Shaolin Temple in the Songshan Mountains

In this early morning, we will start the day with a visit to Shaolin Temple in the Songshan Mountains. Shaolin Temple is famous not only as one of China's important Buddhist shrines, but also as the ancient center of Chinese Kung-fu. The kung-fu tradition started at the temple.  At the beginning of the 7th century, a tiny army of 13 Shaolin monks were reputed to have saved future Tang Dynasty emperor Li Shimin, by defeating an entire division of the ruling Sui Dynasty's army and helping him break out of prison. When he took power, Li showered favors,land and wealth on the temple. Shaolin then thrived as a center of Kung-fu masters from around the country and is reputed also to be “the Number One Temple under Heaven”. In its prime,it housed more than 3 000 soldier-monks. Students can visit the Shakya ManiHall, the Hall of Heavenly Kings, the Great Buddha's Hall, the Abbot's Room, the Standing Snow Pavilion, and the stone tablets, and feel the inscription of Mr. Jin Yong. You can also visit Tallinn, the resting place of the eminent monks of the Shaolin Temple after their death. 

You can also visit Songyang Academy, a time-honored academy. Meanwhile, don't miss the martial arts performance of Shaolin Temple and enjoy the wonderful performance brought by the students of the martial arts school. If you are interested, you can experience Shaolin martial arts. Under the guidance of martial arts instructors at the Shaolin Temple, foreign students can learn some basic movements.


Evening

At dusk, you will continue your journey to Xi'an by high-speed railway. On arrival, you will be picked up by your personal guide and transferred to your hotel. Enjoy a good night's rest.

Day 7Xi'an-The Terracotta Army and Huaqing Palace

Morning

Today, you will dedicate the bulk of your time to the exploration of the world wonder of The Terracotta Army, (also known as the Terracotta Warriors), which represents the subterranean military escort of Emperor Qin Shihuang (the first emperor to unify China). It is said that Emperor Qin intended to wield his authority beyond life with this army, which comprises different branches of the armed force, chariots, horses as well as their weapons, especially thousands of life-sized statues with diverse heights and facial characteristics. Up until now, there are four pits dug and most still buried in the pits. While admiring the Terracotta Army, you might also be curious about how ancient craftsmen created these figures. Getting out of the museum, you will have the opportunity to craft a clay warrior in person at a local artisan's workshop nestled within a cave dwelling.


Afternoon

Coming out of The Terracotta Army, we will head to Huaqing Palace, built on Mount Li in Lintong, Shaanxi province in the Tang Dynasty. Huaqing Palace was once a royal garden for emperors of various dynasties to visit and enjoy. Students will explore Tang Imperial Baths Site Museum, take a scenic ride through Mount Li, renowned for the famous event of "Lighting Beacon Fires to Entertain Feudal Lords". They can also visit the Pavilion of the Military Counsel, where they can trace the historic events of the Xi'an Incident.


Evening

As night falls, we have specially arranged a performance of "The Everlasting Sorrow". Through a blend of light and shadow, the timeless romance story of Emperor Xuanzong and Concubine Yang Guifei is brought back to life. With melodious music and stunning stage effects, let the fragments of history replay before your eyes, feeling that deep affection that transcends time and space.

Day 8Xi’an-Ancient City Tour and Muslim Community

Morning

Today you will visit 600-year-old Xi'an Ancient City Wall, one of the largest well-preserved ancient military defensive systems in the world, and it can be traced to 1400 years ago actually. It was rebuilt during the Ming Dynasty as a military defense system, utilizing the structures of the Tang Dynasty city wall as its foundation.This city's defensive complex, consists of drawbridge, ramparts, embrasure towers, the main tower, turrets, watchtowers, parapets, crenels and its adjacent forest belt, moat, ring roads. This complex system not only safeguards the city but also transforms into a vibrant urban park. From atop the wall, you can enjoy breathtaking views of both Xi'an's historic and modern districts. Cycling along the wall offers a truly unique and memorable experience.

After coming down from the City Wall, you will go to the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, an ancient Buddhist building in Xi 'an. It is built in the Tang Dynasty, with not only great historical and cultural value, but also dreamy and colorful scenes in different seasons.


Afternoon

It is a lovely way to spend afternoon in the Muslim Quarter, which offers an insightful exploration of the local Muslim community. Xi'an, serving as the origin of the famous Silk Road, has been drawing traders from the West since the 1st century BC. The ancestors of these Muslims lived harmoniously with the Han people in Xian. As night descends, the Muslim Quarter becomes one of the busiest places in Xi'an. Here, you'll find an array of exotic shops and flavorful restaurants lined up, taste the local cuisine and explore traditional markets, immersing yourself in the area's distinctive cultural fusion.

Additionally, the Great Mosque is another unmissable attraction, which is one of the largest and best preserved early mosques in China. By the 8th century AD, Xi'an has become the world's largest city, with a population exceeding one million, one-third of which were foreigners. They lived with Han people, learn local laws and customs, at the same time preach Islam to the locals. So they concurrently constructed the Great Mosque for their religious practices. Following reconstructions and expansions during subsequent dynasties, the Great Mosque transformed into an architectural complex featuring large-scale pavilions, towers, arches, and palaces. Its unique fusion of Chinese architectural features with mosque design is certainly worth seeing.

Day 9Xi’an-Chengdu: Qinling Four Rare Animals Science Park

You will most of the day in Qinling Four Rare Animals Science Park, located in Zhouzhi County, Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province. It's named after the four iconic and endangered species native to the Qinling Mountains: the Giant Panda, the Crested Ibis, the Snub-nosed Monkey, and the Takin. This park is not just a zoo; it's a center dedicated to wildlife conservation, education, and research. Here you can encounter with Qinling's four treasures from close distance. Don't miss the chance to see "Qi Zi," the world's only known brown panda under human care! You can also  feed certain animals under guidance, participate in a workshop where you learn about animal conservation efforts or watch a lively puppet show that tells the story of wildlife rescue.

(Optional activity: You can also choose to explore the Huxian Farmer Paintings on this day. It is a folk art originating from the Guanzhong region of Shaanxi Province, evolving from traditional arts such as paper cutting, mural painting, New Year painting, and embroidery. In Huxian county, students can participate in a series of study tours themed around farmer paintings to gain a deeper understanding of this unique folk art. For instance, they can visit exhibition halls to learn about the history, artistic characteristics, and creation backgrounds of farmer paintings. Also, they can attend local farmer painting art festivals or visit the studios of farmer painters. In addition, students can create their own farmer paintings under the guidance of professional painters, which is not only an experience in artistic creation but also an opportunity to gain a deeper insight into the lives of Chinese farmers and traditional folk art. In addition, you can also exchange with students from nearby rural middle schools)


After that, you will continue your journey to Chengdu by high-speed railway. On arrival, you will be picked up by your personal guide and transferred to your hotel. Enjoy a good night's rest.

Day 10Chengdu: Giant Panda Base and Dujiangyang Irrigation System

Morning

As Chengdu is homeland of China's living treasures-giant pandas, a visit to research base of giant panda should be a priority. There are 3 panda bases around Chengdu. Dujiangyan Panda Valley is the closest base to Chengdu and the only place where you can experience panda volunteer program, such as watching the keeper feeding a panda at a very close distance, preparing bamboo for pandas, making cakes for pandas, and then you will receive a unique certificate as proof of your dedication to pandas. Be sure to bring your camera and have an intimate contact with these adorable creatures.


Afternoon

Around 40-minute drive away, the majestic Dujiangyang Irrigation System awaits to inspire your awe. This ancient and grand-scale irrigation system, also the oldest one in the world, continues to serve its purpose today.  Even centuries after its construction, the Chinese people continue to reap the benefits of Li Bing's ingenuity and foresight, enjoying a harmonious and contented life on this fertile plain.

Day 11Chengdu-Shanghai: Exploring Ancient Alleyways and The Bund

Morning

Located at the southern suburb of Chengdu, the Wuhou Memorial Temple was built in honor of Zhuge Liang, the Martial Marquis of Shu during the Three Kingdoms period. Among all Wuhou Memorial Temples across China, the one in Chengdu holds the most significance, being the only one dedicated to both King Liu Bei and his esteemed Prime Minister Zhuge Liang. Zhuge Liang can be called the "Solomon of Ancient China", so a visit to Wuhou Memorial Temple provides a window into the great personality of Zhuge Liang.

Getting out of the Wuhou Memorial Temple, you will begin your exploration of Jinli Ancient Street, which is a modern commercial pedestrian streets integrated with the ancient buildings, which were originally constructed during the Qing Dynasty. As you stroll through the street, you will find many exquisite lacquerware, folk handicrafts, Shu Embroidery, and calligraphy. You'll also encounter folk artisans performing entertaining shows like puppet theater, and skilled craftsmen selling traditional arts such as paper-cuts and clay figurines. These artworks provide a glimpse into the authentic lifestyle of the locals and serve as a reminder of China's past amidst the modernity of the city.

(Optional activity: Another destination is China's Lane, also known as Kuan-zhai Lane, which blends the architectural features of northern China's Courtyard House with those of traditional dwellings in western Sichuan. It consists of Kuan Lane, Zhai Lane and Jing Lane. It's not a bad idea to sip tea in a local tea house or taste Sichuan dishes and snacks at Kuan Lane, so that you will immerse in the leisure life in Chengdu. If you're history or architecture enthusiast, Zhai Lane is the ideal spot to eaplore, as it boasts well-preserved traditional buildings. Among these three lanes, Jing Lane is the most modern, blending Chinese and Western cultures.


If you notice during today's alley exploration, you will find Shu Brocade. It is renowned for its exquisite craftsmanship and vibrant colors, is a traditional silk fabric unique to Sichuan province, China. Thus, it is well worth visiting your next destination -- Shu Embroidery, where you'll witness the intricate processes involved in creating these stunning textiles, from silk thread preparation to the final weaving and embroidery.


Afternoon

Take an afternoon flight after lunch, you will land in Shanghai Pudong Airport or Hongqiao Airport, where you will be warmly welcomed by your local guide and lead to your hotel for rest.


Evening

In the evening, don't miss the symbolic landmark of Shanghai-The Bund, whicih is an epitome of Shanghai's history. Here, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the city's skyline, witness the essence of Shanghai that blends prosperity, history, and elegance. Day 12 Shanghai-City Discovery Tour

Morning

Start with the over 400-year-old Yuyuan Garden, whichthe representative traditional Chinese garden in Shanghai. You will enjoy a splendid view of the intricate garden design and graceful pavilions, villa, lotus lake and bridges.

Then move to the adjacent Yuyuan Bazaar, which is a lively marketplace renowned for its traditional Chinese arts and crafts. You can peruse a variety of antiques, silk fans, bamboo items, shell carvings, and paintings, or savor some authentic Shanghai Xiao Long Bao (Soup Dumplings) to immerse yourself in a bit of Shanghai's cultural flavor.

(Optional Activity: You can also choose to take a leisurely stroll through the Old French Concession and admire the charming buildings lining both sides of the street. Here, you can wander through quaint cafes, art galleries, and boutiques, immersing yourself in a unique blend of Chinese and French cultures.)

Explore Shanghai's tech hub and coffee culture by visiting DJI, a world-renowned leader in drone technology, and Starbucks Reserve Roastery, a paradise for coffee enthusiasts.
