Itinerary

Day 1Beijing Arrival

Upon landing at Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK), your dedicated tour guide will greet you just outside of the luggage claim area, holding a sign that clearly displays your name. After your long flight, take a well-deserved rest and relax.

Day 2Beijing-Exploring Rural Life: Tiananmen Square, The Forbidden City and Hutong Tour

Morning

Tiananmen Square ranks the largest square in the world, served as the entrance to the imperial city and later was used for issuing royal edicts and holding significant celebration events, such as the coronation of the new emperor, imperial weddings. The gate has great political significance for its position and historical events that took place on the square, where you can attend the flag-raising ceremony if you can rise early in the morning.

Stroll from the square to the Forbidden City, also named Palace Museum, which is a must-see spot for visitors. Served as the residence of 24 emperors and their households , as well as the ceremonial and political hub of the Chinese imperial government, the City has been recognized worldwide for its monumental significance. Except to marvel at its magnificent architecture and sight, you can also uncover the mysteries of the royal household.


Afternoon

Hutong, akin to a maze, is composed of historic alleyways lined with innumerable traditional courtyard houses. In many locals' minds, Beijing is inextricably linked with the hutong. These hutongs embody the residents who dwell therein and serve as a museum of Beijing's folk customs, bearing witness to the city's storied past. Regrettably, over the past decade, numerous hutongs have vanished to accommodate modern buildings and expanded roadways. Fortunately, some historic neighborhoods are being preserved. Here you can choose to stroll on foot to soak in the atmosphere or rent a bicycle to cover more ground while resting your feet. Alternatively, hiring a rickshaw is another enjoyable way to go. In this Hutong tour, you will go through the narrow alleys, experience the dumpling-making process with the locals in their homes, and gain insights into the local culture and way of life of those who live there. 


(Optional activity: Test your artistic abilities by learning to paint a Peking Opera Face Mask from a skilled Chinese traditional artisan. These masks feature stunning patterns in vibrant colors and delicate, smooth lines, created either with a brush or by hand. Day 3Beijing-Exploring Historical Sites: The Temple of Heaven & Tai Chi, Mutianyu Great Wall

Morning

The Temple of Heaven stands as a valuable exemplar of ancient Chinese architectural art and represents the largest religious architectural complex in the world dedicated to heaven worshiping from ancient China, where the Emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties would perform rituals to worship heaven and pray for good harvests. While in imperial times, commoners were forbidden from entering this vast park, nowadays, for a nominal fee, you can revel in its beauty throughout the day, and then you will be astounded by its architectural marvels and landscape designs. A visit at dawn will reveal a surprising number of people engaging in morning exercises. It is well worth getting up early and visit the park, where you can watch and join the locals in practicing Tai Chi. This activity not only enhances health and promotes longevity but also allows you to experience the serene lifestyle of the local elderly.


Afternoon

A visit to the Great Wall of China is a must on everyone's travel itinerary. Among the best-preserved sections, the Mutianyu segment once served as a formidable defense in the north, protecting the capital and imperial tombs. This ancient wall has stood against the elements for millennia, with a rich history spanning over 1,400 years. Surrounded by lush grasslands and dense forests, Mutianyu is regarded as "the most beautiful part of the Wall." The entire area resembles a garden perched atop a mountain, where natural springs abound, nurturing a diverse array of plants and fruit trees, and ensuring fresh air throughout the year. For hiking and photography enthusiasts, it is suggested that you spend time honking along the most stunning route (Tower 14-20). Alternatively, Mutianyu Great Wall is equipped with cable car, providing convenience for visitors, so you can take the cable-car up and down.


Evening

After such a long hike, the evening schedule is more relaxed and we will pass the Water Cube and Bird's Nest on the way back to the hotel. They were both landmarks of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Day 4Beijing-Xi'an:The Summer Palace

Morning

With its magnificent building, charming scenery, and tumultuous history, The Summer Palace is no doubt a exquisite place to explore. The Summer Palace was originally the imperial garden of the Qing Dynasty. It was later extensively expanded and renovated under the direction of Empress Dowager Cixi, who spent summers, entertain, repeatedly summoned officials and the received the diplomatic envoys here. Apart from its story in the past, students can stroll through the Long Corridor that ends at the Marble Boat, climb the Longevity Hill and have a sweeping views of the Summer Palace and the Fragrant Hills.

Take high-speed train to Xi'an

After lunch, you will board the high-speed train to embark on a journey of 1,216 kilometers to Xi'an. After 4 hours, you will arrive at Xi'an North Railway Station, where you will be greeted by enthusiastic drivers and guides. You can take a rest or walk around the city after you check in to your hotel.

Day 5Xi'an-The Terracotta Army and Big Wild Goose Pagoda & Hanfu

Morning

Today, you will dedicate the bulk of your time to the exploration of the world wonder of the Terracotta Army, (also known as the Terracotta Warriors), which represents the subterranean military escort of Emperor Qin Shihuang (the first emperor to unify China). It is said that Emperor Qin intended to wield his authority beyond life with this army, which comprises different branches of the armed force, chariots, horses as well as their weapons, especially thousands of life-sized statues with diverse heights and facial characteristics. Up until now, there are four pits dug and most still buried in the pits. While admiring the Terracotta Army, you might also be curious about how ancient craftsmen created these figures. Getting out of the museum, you will have the opportunity to craft a clay warrior in person at a local artisan's workshop nestled within a cave dwelling.


Afternoon

After lunch we will proceed to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, which is closely associated with Buddhist relics. Constructed in the third year of Emperor Gaozong's Yonghui reign (652 A.D.), it was erected by Master Xuan Zang as a repository for the Buddhist scriptures and relics he had brought back from the West. It initially comprised five stories. During the early 8th century, under the reign of Empress Wu Zetian, an additional five stories were added to the pagoda. However, subsequent wars damaged the structure, reducing it to seven stories. At the top of the pagoda, visitors can enjoy a spectacular view of Xi'an.

During your visit here, you can step into a local Hanfu experience center, where you can choose a suit of Hanfu you like and apply makeup that captures the characteristics of a particular dynasty. You can take photos during your subsequent travels today, when walking around the ancient capital in Hanfu seems to take you back to the Tang Dynasty, which can serve as a memorable keepsake.


Evening

Dressing in Hanfu, students will continue their journey to Datang Everbright City in the evening. Datang Everbright City is the only large pedestrian street in China that features a cluster of Tang-style buildings. Here, visitors can stroll among these architectural wonders and engage in various interactive experience activities, such as watching the astonishing light shows and palace dancing performances, and tasting authentic Chinese cuisine.

Day 6Xi’an-Ancient City Tour and Muslim Community

Morning

Today you will visit 600-year-old Xi'an Ancient City Wall, one of the largest well-preserved ancient military defensive systems in the world, and it can be traced to 1400 years ago actually. It was rebuilt during the Ming Dynasty as a military defense system, utilizing the structures of the Tang Dynasty city wall as its foundation.This city's defensive complex, consists of drawbridge, ramparts, embrasure towers, the main tower, turrets, watchtowers, parapets, crenels and its adjacent forest belt, moat, ring roads. This complex system not only safeguards the city but also transforms into a vibrant urban park. From atop the wall, you can enjoy breathtaking views of both Xi'an's historic and modern districts. Cycling along the wall offers a truly unique and memorable experience.


Afternoon

It is a lovely way to spend afternoon in the Muslim Quarter, which offers an insightful exploration of the local Muslim community. Xi'an, serving as the origin of the famous Silk Road, has been drawing traders from the West since the 1st century BC. The ancestors of these Muslims lived harmoniously with the Han people in Xian. As night descends, the Muslim Quarter becomes one of the busiest places in Xi'an. Here, you'll find an array of exotic shops and flavorful restaurants lined up, taste the local cuisine and explore traditional markets, immersing yourself in the area's distinctive cultural fusion. 

Additionally, the Great Mosque is another unmissable attraction, which is one of the largest and best preserved early mosques in China. By the 8th century AD, Xi'an has become the world's largest city, with a population exceeding one million, one-third of which were foreigners. They lived with Han people, learn local laws and customs, at the same time preach Islam to the locals. So they concurrently constructed the Great Mosque for their religious practices. Following reconstructions and expansions during subsequent dynasties, the Great Mosque transformed into an architectural complex featuring large-scale pavilions, towers, arches, and palaces. Its unique fusion of Chinese architectural features with mosque design is certainly worth seeing.

Day 7Hanyang Mausoleum, Flight to Shanghai

Morning

Hanyang Mausoleum (also called Hanyangling Museum) is a tomb from Western Han Dynasty and it is the most intact royal mausoleum. It serves as the joint tomb of Emperor Jing and his queen from the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-24 AD) in ancient China. The reign of Emperor Jing, along with his father Emperor Wen, is collectively known as the Rule of Wen and Jing (180 BC-141 BC), which is regarded as one of the golden ages in Chinese history. His reign fostered economic and cultural development, earning him a reputation as a capable emperor. The mausoleum encompasses the emperor's tomb, the empress's tomb, southern and northern burial pits, a ceremonial area, a graveyard for human sacrifices, and a cemetery for criminals. The tomb of Emperor Jing resembles a pyramid without a top, standing prominently in the center, surrounded by numerous satellite tombs scattered in various directions, serving as its protective guardians. In Hanyangling Museum, there is underground exhibition hall for tourist to visit. In the area, tens of thousands of artifacts have been unearthed, including terra-cotta nude figurines and a diverse array of animal sculptures, with vivid expression on their face.

After lunch, you will continue your journey to Shanghai by air. On arrival, you will be picked up by your personal guide and transferred to your hotel. Enjoy a good night's rest.

Day 8Shanghai-City Tour

Morning

Start with the over 400-year-old Yuyuan Garden, whichthe representative traditional Chinese garden in Shanghai. You will enjoy a splendid view of the intricate garden design and graceful pavilions, villa, lotus lake and bridges.

Then move to the adjacent Yuyuan Bazaar, which is a lively marketplace renowned for its traditional Chinese arts and crafts. You can peruse a variety of antiques, silk fans, bamboo items, shell carvings, and paintings, or savor some authentic Shanghai Xiao Long Bao (Soup Dumplings) to immerse yourself in a bit of Shanghai's cultural flavor. Your guide will provide everyone with some allowance to purchase lunch at the small restaurants in Yuyuan Bazaar. This is a good chance for you to practice your Chinese and shopping abilities.

The 600-year-old Temple of City God are also full of Chinese worldly liveliness, where will encounter numerous sculptures that embody various powerful Taoist immortals according to Chinese beliefs.

Walk along the Nanjing Road to another must-do in Shanghai-Oriental Pearl Tower, which currently stands as the fifth tallest in the world and the third tallest in Asia.

Of course, in the evening, don't miss another symbolic landmark of Shanghai – The Bund, whicih is also an epitome of Shanghai's history. Here, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the city's skyline, witness the essence of Shanghai that blends prosperity, history, and elegance. Day 9Shanghai: Modern Shanghai Discovery Tour

Morning

If you're curious about what a future city will look like, we will visit the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center, located on the eastern side of People's Square. This impressive, five-story building made of microlite glass is one of the world's largest displays of urban development. In the exhibition hall, you will find an incredible large-scale model showing how Shanghai's urban landscape will look in a few decades, featuring a comprehensive plan with numerous skyscrapers.


Afternoon

Explore Shanghai's tech hub and coffee culture by visiting DJI, a world-renowned leader in drone technology, and Starbucks Reserve Roastery, a paradise for coffee enthusiasts.
